Higginbottom Recreational Charity
The Higginbottom Recreational Charity was started when Mr Higginbottom gave funding to purchase the recreation ground to provide recreational facilities for Briston Village. The Charity is responsible for the Briston Pavilion, the Play Area, The Bike Pump Track, the Skateboard Area, the Tennis Courts, the area currently used by the Archery Club and the recreation ground.
The Charity is a separate legal entity to the Parish Council, but the Charity is run by one Corporate Trustee which is the Briston Parish Council. The Chair of Briston Parish Council is automatically the Chair of the Charity and all Councillors serve as the Corporate Trustee.
It is important to note that when serving the Charity Parish Councillors must follow the Governance for the Charity and do what is best for the Charity, not what is best for the Council.
The Corporate Trustee hold monthly meetings to manage the recreational facilities. These are not public meetings, but a report is presented at the Parish Council monthly meeting which is public. There is also an Annual General Meeting which is open to the public.
